Boston, Dec. 24 1917Dear Miss Turner:
The young man did not have the requisite experience. The "Minervas" were no infliction - far from it - only I had an uncomfortable feeling that they knew a lot more than I did. Of course you also do not escape this taint - but then, you survived two years of my society, and I rely on your goodwill.
I am glad you showed me your rooms. I can picture you in them. They are probably very comfortable and pleasant.
Your Belgian professor has not swum within my ken.
Please believe that I am very, very sorry for the loss of Williston Hall. It must have been a painful sight to you.
The real object of this note - until now carefully concealed - was to have you know that you are much in my mind these Christmas days, and that I am wishing you much happiness.
Yours faithfully
W. T. Porter
