1911My dear Miss Turner:
I suggest that you write to Dr. Smith at an early date (he is soon leaving for Germany) and ask permission to take all your remaining examinations. Explain that your thesis is not yet finished, that your work has been interrupted by the necessity of your holding your teaching position, and that you want to clear up all demands except the thesis. The latter can then be finished as opportunity serves.
The day once a week is not enough and I suspect you will need that day for rest and, if your examination is permitted, for study. Meanwhile, I should master the literature of your field. Somewhere in this field your thesis should be attainable. Probably during your vacation you could work at Woods Hole or some other attractive place, cooler than Boston.
I am sorry your mother's health is so poor. If there should be anything I could do for her, please let me know. And be sure to let me know whenever you come to Boston.
In three weeks I have to lecture in Philadelphia and it is doubtful whether the coronary experiments can be continued until this is over.
The summer was a real advantage. We are all greatly improved in vigor.
Yours very truly
W. T. Porter
