The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Dear Miss Turner,

The Madam says to send your corset right along & she will wash it & take it in a little. It will shrink a little in washing, & she will take it in proportionately.

I'm glad you have had a fine summer. You needed the rest.

My own has been chequered. Robert Richards was in hospital from June 19th till Aug. 1st, & is now at home with a norse. He can't go back to College this fall. He was medically mismanaged, operated for apendicitis [sic], - developed pneumonia, was tapped twice with a quart of fluid each time. On July 11th he had an empyena operation.

Father died Aug. 14th - very sudden - broncho-pneumonia - I did not get there in time. Have just returned from Sherborn where Augustus & I & Mrs Howard have been [...]thing the house. Very trying. This burning of bridges behind [...] July 1st I went west on a speaking trip - N. E. U. at Minneapolis - July 3rd - Racine College July 4th. Lake Found & then back home.

My dear love to you,
Esther
