Lady dear,

The reaper works like magic. To see that team of greys gliding easily down the field followed by the Harvester Co.'s latest invention is a satisfaction that only those who love the soil can understand. It was delivered Sat. & the mechanic [...] finished setting it up this A.M. All day I have been running a jitney for hired men. Got them all engaged. Mother was to have spent the day at a neighbor's in the village, but wouldn't go at the last minute. She refused to have her hair combed, & has otherwise been a martyr. I thought it best to leave her alone.

It was good to see you & get a new point of view as it always is. Your life is one I like to think about. Its capacity for enjoyment without heroism is a source of unfailing admiration to me. With all that has been put into life for me, I don't enjoy it as you do, dear. Have not the stuff to start with.

I love you.

Esther
