A Letter written on Dec 27, 1926

770 Ar. Nicholas Ave.
New York City
Dec. 27th, 1926

Lady dear,

I shall enjoy using the knife, as I do everything else you give me. It had not come when I left Balto. the 24th, but I know it is there by this time. Your letter was good to get. I'm glad Ann is not having things all her own way any more. It seems to me if the College could have physiology head up a department of health in association with the Resident Physician & Physical Training & some consideration of Mental Hygiene it would be ideal. I would make some work in physiology required of every student regardless of her major. Howard used to have some such plan, did it not? That would mean that you give 2 types of menu [?] - a job of course but distinctly worth while.

I found Father stronger than when I left him Sept. 25th, but more feeble than he was before the operation. He cannot feed himself or dress without help, but he eats well & sleeps well. Gets out walking once or twice a day for several blocks if the weather is OK. He is very comfortably located here. A.L. has 2 apartments thrown into one. Father has a bedroom, sitting room & both all to himself - warm - full of sunlight & cheerful. He seems happy & contented & does not mourn for Sherborn. His nurse - a woman of 50+ has been staying here looking after him. She came from a little town in northern N.Y. where she lives alone & keeps the P.O. Strange to say she wants to go back there & leaves F. Jun. 1st. I've got to go back to Balto. tomorrow & look for someone else. We pay $100 a month & all expenses. The most important requisite is tact & responsibility. You know the story, having lived thro' it so faithfully for years. I hope you are well & have had some good cheer this season.

I have had a busy fall. Went out to Illinois for 5 days in Nov. Spoke in Balto. Nov. 30 & Dec. 1st. Child Study Group. Jan. 12th Nurses (Md) P.H. Conference. Nutting [?] lecture at Columbia Feb. 11th. Univ. of Buffalo. Feb. 12th. So I have as little time to stop & think as possible. Leisure is reuinous in my present frame of mind.

Father sends the season's greetings.

Much love to you
from
Esther
