A Letter written on Mar 8, 1920

The Johns Hopkins Hospital

March 8, 1920.

Dear Miss Turner,

Have just read of Harkness gift of $100,000 to the College Great work! Miss Goddard and Helen Vincent were in to tea. Everything went off smoothly. You'll be glad to know that I am to speak at the College Club Wed. P.M. of the 24th. It is on my own line but I hope that I won't take away any of the glory of sacrifice. I have thus far sat upon Miss G.'s efforts to put me in the public eye, by gliding accidentally out from under. She has sent a reporter who did not find me in, & I shall not sit on the platform the night of the Rally. There are limits you will admit, even if I did detect a tone of rebuke in your last letter.

Have just received notice of our 10th reunion. I think I shall not go. I cannot leave Balt. for good before July 1st. I couldn't make the trip up & back with all the reunion expenses less than $100. So I'll give it to the Endowment Fund & save my strength. Am now working on another article which I'd like to get out by June. Week after next the 3rd trimester begins & I have the 2nd years in groups of 35 for 12 hrs. a week. I dread these sessions. Nobody knows how much! Some day I shall run away from it all & be heard of no more.

When are you coming down here? You know I am away from Apr 1st to 8th.

Love,
Esther
