The Johns Hopkins Hospital April, 10, 1919.
Dear Miss Turner,
Yours of the 6th has reached me after adventures with a stupid postman who without inquiring concluded that I did not live at 1317 N. Chas. St. He as been educated & now leaves my mail OK.
Now for the questions. Yes, I prefer May 8th rather than the 1st. coming after [...] on fatique. About the day of the week. If Thurs. is best for you, so let it be. I shall have to give my classes "cuts," or provide a substitute for two days anyway, & I don't know as it makes much difference whether it is at the end of the week or the middle. This trimester I am having 100 second years in groups of 35 every morning from 10 to 12. Dr. Meyer has the theoretical Tues. P.M. from 2 to 4. So I'm fairly busy. Have partially consented to give a course of lectures to nurses at the Women's Hosp. in town. These will come evening, however, so as not to crowd the mourners during the day.
Thank you. I should be glad to bring my "wife" in the person of my English friend who has seen no American woman's college except Bryn Mawr, of which I should like to take the taste out of her mouth. Miss Thomas said, "Now you have seen the acme of education for women. There is nothing like it in America or abroad."
I have not looked up trains but will let you know later about them. However we expect to take the 11.15 sleeper from N.Y.C. Wed. night & arrive in Holyoke Thurs. A.M. Am sorry that we cannot stay over the weekend but must return Friday.
As to subject matter. I have finished the trick & will send you a carbon copy as soon as it is typed, if you'd like to look it over in advance. Have not named it yet, & probably will not until I have gone over it several times & skimmed off the grease. The composition is product of what Dr. Meyer wanted me to work in - that is some of my Locust Point school work - & my own ideas of simple needs of every individual along the lines of personality study. I have cut out every technical term & tried to make the thing clear & simple.
By the way, a sad thing has happened. The sheets from No. 22 on the Discontent article blew out of my window while I was away the other day. Disgraceful carelessness! If you'd be good enough to send them on to me I'd have them copied & returned at once to you. That is if you feel you can trust me after the above confession.
If I haven't answered all your qusetions, please tell me.
With much love,
EstherP.S. Of course my "wife" & I will occupy one room.
