Lady dear,

Your letter greeted my return tonight after a busy day. I'm awfully sorry about the back, but I spoke my piece on that subject several years ago when you just had it. I still feel the same. I have no respect for Goldthwaite, in spite of his fame. I shall never feel your case is understood till you see my Dr. Bennet here in Balto. & have Mrs. H. make you a corset. I would be on a fracture board today if it were not for these people. I tried Boston's best orthopedist - Bradford - in my day. And N.Y.'s great man & 2 braces & costs & corsets & got worse.

I fear Miss Moody has been going thro' the same experience. At times can hardly get up or bend, & has trouble walking. I wrote her also to come down & see a real Dr, but she couldn't see it, so I suppose there's nothing to do but let you all wait till you've suffered enough.

So you've 'eard Smily Blouton. What a jack ass he is! He was with us here for a year & we couldn't stand him. The Vassar people asked me to come up & give them a line this summer, but I refused. My hat is still on straight I hope.

I've been trying to get up to Sherborn for a week end with father. I came back to mountains of correspondence & 6 wards this year, & a bunch of consultation work waiting in town for me. Besides I am giving a course Thurs. P.M.s for 200 public school teachers. Evenings I prepare for 5 speaking engagements from Nov. 2-16th. Syracuse, Buffalo, Phil. Balto. First week in Dec. I go to Chicago to hold a nurse's institute for the P.H. group[.] It's very wearing, but the European trip helped a lot.

Much love,
Esther
