A Letter from Gertrude's mother to Lida, undated

Tuesday Night 10 1/2 P.M.

Dear Lida

Grace is just putting the finishing touches on your dress so we can send it with Chillie [Lida's sister] when she goes to the City with Gertie in the morn on the 7 A.M. Train[.] Grace says to tell you it was made under dificulties [sic] as she had to work so long at Gerties. I hope it will fit not tightly but neatly[.] It is made exactly like Gerties so I hope you will like it as much as she does hers.

I intended sending you some things but have been so rushed lately you will have to take the will for the deed Uncle Johns were [sic] here yesterday Miss Stevenson & Uncle Cy to day & tonight & Gracie is slower than ever.

Write imediately [sic] on receipt of this. Am so thankful to Lena & her friends for giving you such a nice vacation[.] Give them my love & thanks[.] all have retired except Grace & I & we must "slip up quietly" So Good night my great big Daughter.

This is to pay for your spring Washing

[I assume she enclosed money with the letter, though it is not in the envelope any longer of course.]
