A Letter from Edd to their mother, May 21, 1876

[I'm guessing on the year based upon the fact he says he's writing this on a Sunday, he mentions the Centennial, and upon other letters in this collection. There are no paragraph breaks in the original; some added here for ease of reading.]

Indiana May 21st

Dear Mother

As it has been several weeks since I wrote Home I thought I would write to day. In my last letter forgot to tell you who roomed with Gertrude since Miss McFaddin left her. It is a Sister of one of the Teachers and She is entitled to a Room beside she rooms partly with her sister and partly withe [sic] Gertrude and so this Miss Butler who rooms with Gertrude only stais [sic] there part of the time and sleeps and studies with her Sister.

I took Gertrude over to Dr Lewis's for Supper one evening[.] They are all quite well over there[.] Mrs Lewis sais her Baby is very cross but very hearty[.] She is looking for a letter from you.

How are they geting [sic] on at home with the farming the weather has been very hot here for a day or two and it has rained for every day. As I write (2. P.M. Sunday) it is raining. Every thing looks so nice, the Trees are quite green and the Fruit trees are just through blossoming and show as if there would be a good crop of fruit.

Mother I am geting [sic] tired of this going to school[.] I intend coming Home about the first of July or as soon as we get on in our books as far as we intend to go and begin to review. dont [sic] forget that I must go to the Centeniel [sic] sometime this summer. Gertrude had a letter from Pa which She Showed me he wanted to know how much and when I wanted the rest of the money tell him I will write and tell him in a week or two as I dont know just yet myself.

I would like for some of you to ans this and let me know wheather [sic] Pa wishes me to go to School next year or not and if I must come back here or not. The reason I ask this is I have one of the best Rooms in the Building and if I come back I would like to keep it for my part I am tired of going to school. I am just now begining [sic] to see how much there is to learn and how dumb I am to learn it. Remember I changed my room since Pa was here and got one with 3 windows in it an[d] it fronts to Town[.] I think it is the best room in the north wing.

I think Gertrude is geting [sic] along very well she keeps herself very close to her books I keep telling her to walk for her health which she does but not near enough I think she has midling good health now. I begin this epistle on sunday [sic] but I did not finish it till Wednesday. I am enjoying good health and hope you all are at home -

I remain your aff son
