Boston Janry 6th 1846My dear Jane
We received your letter this morn & are glad to learn the box reached you safely I saw Mrs Blacklee to day and afterwards saw Miss Hooper she wishes you to say to Ellen bring everything from S Hadley belonging to her as she will not return there again - as your trunk is large I wish you to bring all your dresses it will not be necessary to bring your muff or band box -
Mr & Mrs Adams with Mary Ann expect to go to Hartford on Saturday to spend a few days Mary is not at all well - Mary Sewall called to day to see her - Mary Steele is again confined to the house with a cold[.] We are all well for which we have great cause for gratitude Marshall has hired a Cottage at Newton & expects to move in this week - Cousin Eliza spent last Sabbath with us - I am glad to learn the religious interest in S Hadley is increasing I hope you appreciate the privileges you enjoy & will make a wise improvement of them, remember those scholars who are not pious look to you for an example see to it the blood of none be found in the skirts of your garments[.]
As you will so soon be at home I will close my letter[.] Remember me to Mr Smith's family also to Miss Lyon & Whitman[.] Evarts sends love
From your affectionate
mother SLS- [Sarah Lathrop (Coit) Scudder][Evarts is Jane's brother.]
