A Letter written on Jan 5, 1892

Dorchester. Jan. 5 1892

Dear Emma

I saw in the newspapers with surprise and pain the notice of the passing on of your husband. I had no idea of any serious illness.

This is only to assure you that my warmest sympathy goes with you and yours. I do so well remember Alfred as a bright, frank, open hearted pupil. I think of his sunny face, and as the boy who never dodged. He must have left pleasant memories for you all.

Yours with affection and sympathy

Lucy Stone
