A Partial Letter Written around 1838

Revival commenced among the methodists - little band of christians saw the wickedness of that little village and called on God for help - for the most part drunkeness hunting, riding &c were the order of the sabbath day. But oh! how changed - 150 conversions in that little village - I asked one brother how many converts? he replied, have "not stopped to count and shan't until we we [sic] gained the victory". My Bro S. you would be made to blesst to hear them pray - Methodist & Congregationalist united together praying for the correction of all - none wont be left - But few indeed have have yet shout out - conversions multiply daily - Glory to God - He's taken upon him his great power in good consent [?] - 1550 or 200 converts in Williamsburg - this whole valley of dry leaves seems to be shaken - love comes to live &c - -

Great doings in Chesterfield - Oh! "Cry out and thank, though inhabitant of Zion; for great is the Lord in the midst of the" - "for he hath done excellent things in the midst of thee" - the work has - we hope - just commenced in this village - 50 converts or more - all my time taken up, out of school in visiting in talking - Atending [sic] meetings &c - though a stranger, yet I have learnt to go where I have to ask them their names - tell them my errand - and go at it - this sabbath talked with several who are anxious and - Praise the Lord! - For he, a getting down to himself - Oh my I do good through his help - all is of him - pray for me, for I'm a great sinner and need the help of the holy spirit - Bro. S. go to work and convert your school even at the 11th hour - [...] as soon as you come home - just came down to S.H. I have Sat eve meetings which I conduct - want help from mand & God - 5 conversions since last friday - many anxious - have come to the birth and Christians can't bring them forth - My heart and mouth is full excuse this d[...]g[...]ous mess - write soon [?]

P.S. Bro. Bartlett at Hockanum is full of the holy ghost - his son - Henry - is converted and 2 daughters are, praising God. He is ready to join his brother and labor for souls - 3 anxious sinners came down last night - we hoped before the[y] returned - Bro. B. left his business - (wordly) and gone to visiting every [soul?] in [Auburn?]. Mrs. G. has been out I done good - come and see for yourself -
