June 5, 1898.My dear Mama:-
We have another lovely day to-day. I sent my letter by Lizzie as I thought perhaps you wouldn't expect it until then. I hope she has been in to tell you all that we did. We really put in quite a day Monday and I guess they enjoyed it. After they went off Tuesday afternoon I got ready and went up to College for a Concert. It was sort of the last straw and I felt somewhat stupid the rest of the week but I'm all right to-day for I went off on the last Geology expedition yesterday and was put out of doors all day. It wasn't a nice day and was cold but we had a good time. We went to Monson to the quarries. There is a pretty park there too. The owner of the quarry took us up to it from the station in one of their stone cars fitted up with seats and flags. Then he provided a team that took us to the park and all around the town.
Next Saturday I'm going to spend over at school.
That invitation was for Della Bower's wedding. You know she is the girl who visited Alice Holmes that summer I was there. Then I saw her down at Hartford this Spring. Of course I cant [sic] go but I like to think she remembered me.
I cant [sic] realize that there are only three weeks more of school. Reddie said something about my coming to spend a day or two with her after school closed. Do you mind if I go or do you want me to come right home?
I've got to put in a lot of work this week if my energy will only keep up to the working point. One day, probably Tuesday I'm going to take my Geology class to the Gorge in South Hadley, and about every minute of the week is filled. Then there's all the Commencement plans. I expect forty at our reunion and they've all to be planned for. Miss Boyden is crazy every night because all the mail is mine. But I do get a good deal from the girls about reunion and this week I've had some about our summer trip. But I feel a good deal better than I did last Spring at this time and I haven't reached that state of extreme thinness although some of my clothes are getting pretty big.
Have you been over to Mamie's again. I wish you could get so you could go over there occasionally.
Lovingly
Nellie
