My dear Abby,
I have thought so often of you lately, for I feel that, although you must be thankful that your mother has no more suffering, you must be very lonely with the ceasing of that loving care you have given for so long.
I saw Miss Clapp in July at Woods Hole where I spent a week and she told me that you were tired and troubled with a "back". For this reason please do not feel you must answer this letter. I merely wanted you to know of my sympathy and that I am still interested in your life although we so rarely meet or even hear of one another.
I am spending two weeks here and am rejoicing in the peace and solitude of a cabin, up on the hillside among the birches and with juncos and god finches for company.
My family are at home this summer and after a rather strenuous May and June and a hot July, it is very good to be here in the cool and quiet.
If you are ever in Boston for even a day wont you let me know? That glimpse of you last summer at the Club showed me that you are sometimes there. With best wishes for the coming winter, believe me.
Sincerely yours,
Caroline B. Thompson.
