A Letter written on May 18, 1930

My dear Miss Turner;

This will just to let you know that I am leaving for Saint Louis. Dr. Mary H. Mclean died Saturday afternoon. She really has been a mother to me for seventeen years. I so wanted her to go to China for a visit two years ago to see for herself something of what Young China is doing. She refused our gift for friends in this country advised her not to do so.

I shall miss her loving inspiration and many comforting letters. My only wish is that she could have lived afew [sic] more years in health and enjoy something of life. But as she was not her self mentally probably her going was the best. We only had one good week allthese[sic] seven years. The last visit I realized it was the last for she was so thin.

I do not mean to pass my sorrow to you. But one likes to tell our friends both joyful and sad things. I hope to be back within a week as I have many more odds and ends to finish before leaving for Harvard.

With love.

Yours lovingly,
M. I. Ting.

Sunday afternoon.
