A Letter written on May 25, 1930

Dear Miss Turner;

This is just to let you know that I am back from Saint Louis. Altho. the going of my friend was hard yet it was for the best. Dr. Van Housen from Chicago came and she told me many interesting events of Dr. McLean. For her first year she had not even one patient. To get a place to live she had to go forty three houses before people would consider to take in a women physician. For her surgical work at different hospitals she excelled any man of her time. I am glad that I have known her and that her life will always be an inspiring influence upon me.

I have decided to go to Harvard in July and also have asked Ruth Conklin to make a reservation for me at Miss Holt's. for August I have a chance to visit Dr. Case Blechschmidt at Philadelphia. She is professor of Obstrics [sic] and Gynecology at the Woman's Medical College. Harvard is really very conservative. I thought while there I could also utilise month of August for a review in work which I had much experience in China. Women are not admitted in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In our country women would not have men for these branches.

I love to see you again but I certainly do not want you to come down to Springfield. We shall try to see each other at Copenhagen. As soon as I have a letter from my niece I would be able to know my sailing date for Europe[.]

American training is different from our training. I met a four year old Chinese girl at Saint Louis. She was so active that I was almost dizzy. So I can imagine your young guests. I told the four year old Chinese girl that she will have to go back to China for training. Her father said that he is very anxious to take her back. He does not speak much English. But he said too much movie, takie [sic] and radi [sic] for children here.

This little note bring you much of my sincere love. I like to catch up my work again as I was away for one week.

Yours lovingly,
Me-iung
