My dear Miss Turner. This is just a little note to you to night. I hope your mother will be alright soon. You are so near Philadelphia. It might be that you are back to college again.
This is a general hospital. I am in surgical service. I am the junior surgical assistant this month and I expect to be senior surgical assistant next month. The work here is good, altho interns are allowed less freedom than my first hospital. The staff is a good one and we internes learn a great deal from them. Dr. Deaver comes to lecture to students. I try to attend some senior clinics just to review my senior work. I have to supervise a few seniors if they are on my serivce. We interns have to write up histories & physical examinations of all ward patients. I told me senior students - if they will do histories for me - I will show them the interesting surgical cases. This exchange seems to work well. Philadelphia is quiet [sic] a medical center. I am sorry that I do not have time to take the advantages of many good medical clinics in city. I expect to be Dr. Van Hoosen's surgical assistant this fall. Surgery is fascinating. I do not know how long I could be with her. She is a good surgeon. Then I expect to have six months work in a municipal hospital. I am giving more time to surgery than anything else. I love pediatrics - but I do not have time to go in now.
Yes I will visit you before leaving for China. I cannot say just when. I am not very far from South Hadley now. I imagine it is about 12 hrs. ride on train.
It is after nine. I must go to bed. There are so many little things to attend before tomorrow.
With much love.
