Tientsin, China.April 10th, 1939.
Dear Miss Turner:
Your letter dated March 6th came. I was sorry to hear that you had a fall and you have suffered sore elbow. By the time this letter reaches you I hope everything is well with you. I have regained my health which means happiness and freedom to a person. Today is Easter Day. We had all doctors for dinner. We had a joly [sic] time together. Abby spent the day with her friend Alice a girl of her age, a daughter of my classmate. Abby is learning French now. I want every oen of my nephews to have two languages besides Chinese. My nephews in America are taking up French and German. My nephew here is taking English and Japanese. I still can read French a little. But with Abby studying French I am reviewing my French with her. She gets languages easily. Mary Jean is sick today with a temperature and sore throat. But I cannot detect anything about throat. If she does not get better I would have a culture made tomorrow. Now our hospital is gettong [sic] more complete each year. We have now ourown [sic] X ray and ourown [sic] laboratory. As I looked back sixteen years ago and look at the hospital today we can say we have made progress in everyway. [sic]
I am looking foward to my vacation in May. I would write you about it when I am really having my vacation. There is no one in view now to take up my work at hospital otherwise my year for study is due me this year.
Dr. Samual [sic] Zia from P. U. M. C. will give a lecture this coming spring at Harvard. He and Dr. Zinsser worked on typhus. There is a serum availabl[e] at P. U. M. C. laboratory now. If you should ever meet him at Boston he would be able to tell you about everything you want to know.
Outside of my work I am devoting much time in my garden. This work gives me time outdoors. My nephew is well so he is helping in the home and the hospital. Thus I would have sometime [sic] for reading. I have now four medical journals and they keep me busy for reading.
This short letter brings you much love from our family.
Yours lovingly.
