Dear Miss Turner;

Your note dated September 24th came this afternoon. This happens to be Sunday and I have a little time for myself and my friends. I am so glad to know that you are back at college. I am also glad to know that Grace Liang is so attractive. I did not have the chance to know her as I was a stranger in town. I know her brother who is a doctor. We do see each other in our professional work[.] He is a very fine young doctor. When Dr. Tsao was sick we had Dr. Liang as her doctor.

I am getting along very well for a young doctor. Physically I won't be able to stand any more. It is selfish to say that I do not want any more work when there are so few workers.and there is so much to be done. Altho. I am only thirty hours from home, but everybody is busy and we do not see each other at all. I saw my father only few times since coming home.

Dr. Tsao's sudden going was indeed hard for me. However the only thing for me to do is to continue her unfinished task. I do not know how long before I could go back to Shanghai. I feel the need for a woman doctor is greater here. I am the only westerned trained woman doctor in town among 400.000 Chinese women. So you can see my future oppotunity [sic] will be good. Shanghai offers no equal good chance. Of course I would have enough to do just helping my fathe[r] and my brother. However I like to start to do things myself. After afew [sic] years I could easily hand over my work to a younger doctor, then I can starty myown [sic] work in Shanghai. This is golden opportunity in China and reward comes to those who work hard for it.

This is just a little note to tell you that I am thinking of you this very Sunday Afternoon. Kindly send me a picture of your new science building. Nankai College wants to have it for her model. Dr. Chang Po Ling is the president and he knows Miss Wooley. [sic]

With love,

Yours lovingly,
M. I. Ting.
