A Letter written on Aug 18, 1949

August 18th, 1949.

My dear Miss Turner;

This is very hot weather and here I am sitting in my office quietly trying to get few words to you. Mail is going to America by way of Hongkong. Yuch Ming's brother is stationed at Hongkong now. My brother is also living at Hongkong. Thus I am trying to get this letter to you by way of Hongkong and a friend will mail for me there. It has been very hard to have all members of our family living at different places with no news sometimes for months. For two months I have not even gotten any reading material from abroad. Mentally and spiritually one gets hungry for reading material and friendly contact. The world may change in idiologies [sic] but certainly the ideals of love, faith, trust, devotion, tolerance and sacrifice remain same thru out the christian world. Charcters are developed under difficult circumstances. The last I heard from you was December 1948. Since then many things have happened here. My fourth nephew S. V. Ting with his little family left for Ohio University to complete his Phd in horticulture. They are living at 104, 15th Avenue, Columbus 1, Ohio. They have a little baby daughter about nine months old. My third nephew Dennis Ting is working at Veteran Administration Hospital, Fargo, N. D. They have also a little baby but a boy about nine months old. Indirectly I have heard about Yueh Ming who is expecting a baby in November. I wrote you about David my great nephew whom we do not know the whereabout. [sic] His mother my niece is trying to locate him either at Hongkong or America. I have gotten one letter from Miss Purington January 1 949. [sic] I hope that she is well and is able to go about her home duties. Kindly remember me to her and Miss Griffith who was teaching down South. No more Quarterly has come thru since March this year. So I do npt [sic] know any news about the college. My work keeps me very busy and happy. Outside of my professional life I am busy with work of United Nations Emergency Fund for Children and also relief work of International Relief Committee. I am chairman of both organizations so I have very little time to think of anything else but busy contacts with so many people everyday. We hope to finish both organizations routine by the fall. There is a chance to send this letter so I would close it with much love. I still hope to see my friends soon.

Yours lovingly.
M. I. Ting.
