September 28th, 1949.Dear Miss Turner;
This is very early morning. There is a doctor from World Health Organization coming to see me and have breakfast with me. He is going to America tomorrow and I am trying to ask him to mail this letter on boat. I hope in someway [sic] it would get to you. I had a verystrange [sic] surprise from Field Sevretary [sic] Miss Gertrude V. Bruyn telling me the small gift which I gave to Miss Woolley's memorial fund. The sum was only three dollars but it reached her through a round about way. The gift was sent through Mrs Anderson of New York when she attended Y. W. C. A. Conference then she gave it to Miss Snell meeting her at Lake Placid and eventually Miss Snell forwarded to the office. But this shows even the round about way and even the long distance and even the long time it got there just the same. It is with the same spirit I am getting this letter to you. First of all I am well and very busy in my work as before. I long for a change but it is impossible to go away just now. I long to go back to my class reunion of 1920 which would be our thirtieth reunion. This would all be impossible but I am still very happy in my activities here. There is plenty to do. Tientsin was not flooded this year but surrounding districts are under water. Just now we are busy again with flood relief. Men are foolish yet and spend so much timeand enregy [sic] for idiologies instead for the common good of the ordinary people women and men and poor suffering children. We are certain that God, not men would save the world. So I am plodding in my small way to make my little corner of the world a better place. Since my time two more generations have come to America for higher education. No matter what they should get I hope they wouldcarry [sic] away with them the spirit of service to menkind. I shall be happy to hear from you. The letter has come the round about way by Hongkong in care of my nephew Dr. Lan Sun Ting, 39 Lockhart Road, 2nd floor, Werchai, Hongkong. He would remail from Hongkong to Tientsin. I have heard from my nephew S. V. Ting who is with his family at 34 West Lane Avenue, Columbus Ohio[.]
The enclosed is a letter for David Wong, nephew cousin of Yuch Ming. [enclosure no longer with this letter] I do not know if he has entered Dartmouth. Kindly mail it to Y. M. for me and she would redirect it. I hope that this letter would find you well and strong. Kindly remember me to all my friends. I hope soon we would have direct communications from Tientsin to America. I close this letter with much love to you.
Yours lovingly.
Me_iung Ting.
