Hamilton Dec. 25th/50.Friend Caroline,
It seems long since I wrote you, but I have not designed to be negligent. Your last was received just before commencement and I then resolved to write you according to your request when "among the scenes loved best," not only by yourself but also by me. When then, however, you were also expected soon to be in the same favored place, and therefore I neglected to address you. - -
With regard to my visit in K. I scarcely need to say that it was very, very pleasant. Martha can tell you the particulars; excepting that she will hardly venture to say that she was better than ever before and would make me love her more than I ought to love even her. Your uncle's folks also received me kindly and cordially; for which they have my gratitude. I had feared the coldness which I could but feel was not deserved. Sure it is, Caroline, that in events which have pained you, I have been pained. All that has been wrong I regret. In your future peace and happiness none will more rejoice. Receive this as the honest expression of my abiding feelings. Let me hear from you, Caroline; and while I wish for you better, truer, dearer friends, let me be still
Your Friend. -
Luke Osborn
