Lucy M. Curtis (1814-1849) was born in Sturbridge, MA, the daughter of Jonathan P. Curtis (?-1849) and Lucy Mason (1782-1860). She graduated from Mt. Holyoke in 1844 and became a highly respected teacher there. Lucy boarded at Rebecca Atwater's house in Ravenna in 1848. Her unexpected death at West Brookfield, MA, on April 27, 1849, created a serious gap in the school's teaching staff.
