These South Hadley portraits aren't identified ... yet! Hopefully I'll figure out who they are.
The Images
All photos are available with both front and back scans, if there is something on the back, and comments about what is written on the front or back are included below.
- Portrait
- front A portrait of a woman with corkscrew curls, a military-style bodice with bands of velvet, and a bow at her throat with a flower as an accent. It was taken sometime between Sept 1, 1864 and Aug 1, 1866. There's a tax stamp with a simple cancellation on the back, and they were required on photographs in order to raise revenue for the Civil War. It cost the original owner 25 cents or less to buy, since it has a 2 cent revenue stamp. (Thanks, Sue!) Photo by J. P. Taylor, South Hadley.
