Cased Photos, mid-1800s
History
Daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and ferrotypes (tintypes) are often found in hinged cases. I've included a few tintypes here that were not in cases.

- Tintype of Four Women
- front Tintype of four women in a living room. Scratched into the back: "1/10 Holyoke"
- Four classmates from 1867
- front A tintype portrait of four women in traveling clothes. Inscription below the photo in the album: "Emma Stiles and Alice Stiles and two Mt Holyoke '67 classmates"
- Family Ambrotype
- front An ambrotype of a man, woman, and two young girls. Inscription on a piece of paper tucked inside the case: "Brown Brown / Ethie older child / Corrine Brown was gr. gr. Brownson / about 4 yrs old half sister
Effi Ethie 3 yrs older / Great Grandma Brownson was Corrine Brown born [sic - should be 'married'] June 22 1880 Graduated U. of Minn. also went to Mount Holyoke, Mass. born Waterbury, Vermont"
- Four Mount Holyoke students, 1861
- front An ambrotype of four young women. A piece of paper enclosed in the case is inscribed: "Jennie and her room mates at Mt Holyoke 1861 - the year she left. Mary Horton Fanny Glidden [sic] Jennie Brown Abbie Pillsbury"
- Mary Warner Eustis as a child, c. 1861
- photo A sticker on the front of the case: "Mary Warner Eustis M. W. E."
- photo A view of the tintype photo within the case. Mary Warner Eustis is the baby.
- photo This is a 9th plate case. This gives you a sense of the size of the photograph.

- Daguerreotype Portrait of Mary Susan Rice
- photo The daguerreotype, probably from the 1850s, is identified "Mary S. Rice" on the paper liner of the case, and shows a half-length portrait of Rice in a dark dress with white collar and large brooch. It is in very good condition.
