Publicity Photos, 1921

History

This stack of snapshots came to me in one lot. Some are stamped by Rowena Turner, and some are stamped by Edith Palmer. (By this, I mean there is a rubber stamped statement on the reverse of the photo that says "Return to Rowena H. Turner Mount Holyoke College South Hadley, Mass." or "Return to Edith S. Palmer, Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass.") Both women were involved with press photography at Mount Holyoke during the early 1920s. I scanned these a little larger than usual because they are so interesting. All the photos have inked or typed inscriptions on the reverse, which are transcribed here. If the photo contains Turner's stamp, the notation "(RHT)" will be added to the transcription here. If the photo contains Palmer's stamp, the notation "(ESP)" will be added to the transcription.
