Mount Holyoke College Victory-Eights
Ya Like That?

HISTORY: The V-8s began as accompaniment for a dance sequence at the 1942 Junior show at Mount Holyoke College. They were such a hit that the eight women were soon singing on their own. The name of the group comes from the War 2 "V for Victory" slogan. They sang at nearby Westover Airforce Base as the war started up and were the first nonprofessional group to sing at the famous Stage Door Canteen in New York City.

And, so the V-8s began long before the high performance engine and have nothing to do with a certain vegetable juice (although the group was once asked to be in the juice company's advertisements) Fifty-five years later, they still sing some of the original group's songs, and apply their smooth harmonies to the music of everyone from The Andrew Sisters to Depeche Mode.
