Original Lydia Shattuck Hall

History

There were two buildings called Shattuck Hall. The original Shattuck Hall was the physics and chemistry building; it was built in 1892 and torn down in 1954. It was named for Lydia Shattuck (class of 1851), professor emerita of botany.

I have only found one card that featured Shattuck by itself; there are several cards on the Williston Hall page that also display Shattuck Hall in the view.

back Divided back, stamp box, postmarked Sep 24, 1917 7am in South Hadley. Stamp missing. #800 C. A. Gridley & Son. Made in Germany. "Sun. So very sorry to miss you yesterday I was in Holyoke for just an hour and a half. Can't your people stop for a few minutes when they bring you back to college - Oct 10 isn't it? I do want your mother and May to see what some of the things are like and also to see the Registrar. I am sending this picture as you will have a guide of your own the next time you come over instead of a borrowed one!! I shall look for your family the 10th. H. L. Stedman"
