Byron Smith House

[Byron Smith Building]

History

In 1912-1913, three houses were moved to make room for the construction of Skinner Hall and Student-Alumnae Hall. The Byron Smith House, named for its former owner, was originally located where Mary E. Woolley Hall is located today. It was the French language house from 1939-1965. It is now located at the corner of Morgan Street and Minden Place, and is used for faculty housing.

It looks out on an apple orchard. I'll write to-morrow and tell you why I don't need curtains I meant to before but there was so much to tell I forgot it. Lots of love, Dot. Alice Stevens of Millers Falls is my room mate."

Photo, September 7, 1998
I was curious as to how the Byron Smith Building has changed over the years, so I took this photo on September 7, 1998. The biggest change: the little porch above the front door has been removed! It's now just a covered entrance.
