College Street

History

Mount Holyoke College straddles College Street. These cards display views of the green in the center of College Street in front of Dwight, and the buildings and trees on both sides of the street.

I'd like to have you come over some Tuesday or Wednesday A.M. a little later on. Write me when it is best for you. It's terribly hard over here and I'm having a hard time trying to keep up. The water is so low here that if we don't get rain in 2 weeks, college will have to close. Write me soon. Amy B. Lindsey."

South Hadley Center

front "South Hadley Center, Mass." The Soldiers Monument is visible in the center, as well as trolley tracks on the right side of the street. One of the storefronts on the left has a sign indicating Glesmann Bros! The Glesmann brothers ended up making alot of postcards; decades later, Glesmann's Pharmacy was located there, or nearby.

back Divided back, postmarked Oct 3, 1909 6pm in Winchester, Mass. A. M. S. #4328 Printed in Germany. "Winchester Mass. Dear Friend:- Your card recieved [sic] So glad to get it. Am just getting around on crutches. It's awful. The plaster cast is still in. Suppose you girls are planning for next Summer. Hope you will still come this way. Lovingly Mrs. Luz. #21 Stine Ave."

We have four. Do you know this picture. I am learning to row. I have three chairs came and am on the fourth one. We have had a good shower this afternoon. Francis"

back Divided back, postmarked Oct 21, 1909 7am in South Hadley. #2552 Published by The Rochester News Company, Rochester, NY. "Dear mamma,- I will write before long, but haven't much time just now. Last night I went to Reception, but didn't dance. We had awful time finding our senior partners. I wore my graduation rig, and we had chocolate ice cream ladies fingers and cookies with green frosting, and you know everybody eat[s] with their silk and kid gloves on so I did and got some green on my thumb. When I got home I put the end of thumb in water and nearly all of it came out, so I guess it didn't hurt my gloves. Now about coming up. I guess I'll have to let you decide. Sat afternoon I go to Hygiene lecture from 350-about 5. Well I thought I would tell you about it now but I guess there isn't room so will talk about that in letter soon. But really I can't quite decide which is best. Wed. I was in labwork from 830 to about 11:30, most of all Monday then washing from 1:30 to about 3:30. I really would like you to see Vespers though. Well I'll see you before long. OOOOOOOOO F. D. Just think I haven't written to Edith W. yet can't seem to find time to do anything."

back Divided back, postmarked Jun 4, 1908 10am in South Hadley. "June 4 - 8:00 A.M. Was surprised but glad to receive yours so early as yesterday noon. That address is 19 Circuit Ave., Worcester - S.F.Bunnpus. [?] Miss L- thinks he has one year more. You mustn't worry about me - I was very tired and nervous over Sunday but am better now. My head ached again yesterday but doesn't this morning. Isn't this cool weather refreshing? Glad you enjoyed your cousins visit so much; - you, too, must be careful not to work any harder than you are obliged to. Eleven more school-days! R."
