S. S. Rocky, 1942-1945

S. S. Rocky, 1942-1945
The Navy set up a school for communications officers on campus. Rockefeller Hall became "S. S. Rocky" for the duration and for the first time in MHC history no one was late for classes. The Navy attracted most local women who entered military service, and several of the training officers assigned to the South Hadley "base" were alumnae.

The WAVES was an organization of women whose job was to replace Navy men at shore stations. Over 300 WAVES were quartered at MHC. I was unable to locate a directory of the women who lived in the Rockefellers between 1942 and 1945.
