Carrie Ellen Gowing x1908
Carrie Ellen Gowing was born in Hudson, NH on March 13, 1886. Her father's name was George T. Gowing. She went to Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH, prior to entering Mount Holyoke in September of 1904. She was at Mount Holyoke for two academic years (1904/1905 and 1905/1906) with the intention of majoring in biology. There is no information at the Mount Holyoke Archives as to why she left, but I recently had an opportunity to purchase some of her letters, and they revealed that she had diabetes. She died late in 1907, and her death certificate is available for viewing at the end of her letters.
