Douglas Babcock born 1935
After Nina's death in 1998, I contacted Nina's son Douglas and asked him if this card was definitely from his grandmother. He wrote to me and said:
Yes, you have a postcard from my grandmother to my Aunt Agnes! My grandmother died of cancer at the age of 60 when I was very, very young, and although there are pictures of me with her, I do not have any childhood memories of her. My grandparents lived in Woodland, Maine which is about as far east as you can get, and since the schools there were inadequate, my mother and sister were sent to Greenfield, Massachusetts to attend high school and live with old friends of the family. From there they both went on to Mount Holyoke. My Aunt Agnes died of cancer when she was in her forties. She was a librarian in Utica, New York for many years. My mother was the songleader for the class of 1920 during her years at Mount Holyoke and continued to be the songleader at the class reunions.
Douglas shared a few of his photos of his mother with us. You can see them on the page of photographs.
