February 11, 1900.My dear Susie
Positively I must take just a little time tonight and tell you that I have been watching for that nice long letter of yours for a long, long time. Where or where is the Round Robin? I fear this trip has been too much for him.
You were unfortunate in having to teach New Year's Day as we are in not having Lincoln's birthday as a holiday. I have been so rushed and still am that I am neglecting my friends most shamefully. Elizabeth, you may tell her, I am planning to write to soon.
This morning I slept till quarter of ten and not being dressed till quarter of eleven needless to say I went without breakfast and was late to church. I was good today going to two services - and I have been dissipating in a most exceptional manner this week I heard Il Trovatore Friday night. The music was beautiful. Nordica sang. It affords an excellent opportunity for contrast to say that my own voice is improving according to the verdict of my teacher.
Sunday night is altogether too near Monday morning and I am confronted with more work. Goodnight -
Lovingly
Mary.[While she did not sign her full name here, on another letter she did, and the handwriting reveals the two authors to be the same person. Similarly, another letter identified Elizabeth's full name.]
