The Susie Lawson Letters

[Letter]

History

These letters were written in 1891-1894, before Susie attends college in South Hadley. Susie is writing from the town of Blandford, Mass. in 1892-1893, where she is teaching school. I thought that was pretty remarkable, as she didn't graduate from Mount Holyoke until 1898. I was assuming she was a traditionally aged student at Mount Holyoke, but when I looked into it, I discovered she was born in 1874 and was about 24 when she graduated from Mount Holyoke. At the time she was teaching in Blandford she would have been 18 and presumably a high school graduate.
