Letters from the class of 1871, in 1921
History
The class of 1871 was solicited in 1921 for their life accomplishments and their thoughts about Mount Holyoke and their upcoming 50th reunion by Edith Palmer 1910, who was active in the publicity department at Mount Holyoke in 1921. The letters that they wrote to Miss Palmer were intended for an article about the class of 1871 for the Boston Evening Transcript newspaper. At some point, Miss Palmer involved 1871 class member Cornelia Clapp in the project, and passed the letters on to her. Some of the letters are addressed to Cornelia directly. The article was printed on their reunion day (June 10, 1921) and the text of the article is here, courtesy of Mount Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections.
The last section of letters involves the reunion itself, and the organization that was going on behind the scenes to make the reunion a success.
