The Elizabeth Bailey Letters, 1956
History
These letters were written from Elizabeth ("Liz") Bailey to her parents in Syracuse NY. In the winter of 1956, Liz is a sophomore living in Mead Hall, taking many ski trips on the weekends, and pondering her plans for summer and junior year. She decides to work as a camp counselor at Chateaugay again this summer, and moves with a classmate to the new dorm (Buckland) in the fall. She mentions working on a show in the fall, and getting a job working for Winston handing out free samples of cigarettes to other students.
There are also a few letters and postcards from Liz's brother Tom to their parents in the summer of 1956 included in this collection. Tom is at a camp in Raquette Lake, NY in July, and at the beach in Ocean City NJ in August.
