Dear Cornelia: Mr. Williston writes me that Mr. Ward of Rochester will give us the skin of a Cassowary & mount it for us for $40. I have agreed to get the money for said beast, & think that though you are pretty well exhausted now by your efforts in the elevator enterprise, you may be able to get a few dollars toward [this] project, & [... be]yond our powers. I am sure I don't know where to turn but I must strike out somewhere. I hope you will have a good time if you go to Pine Pt. Misses S. & H. seem to be at the height of human felicity[.] What do you hear fr. the Dr? I am feeling better than usual this vacation. The elevator money is nearly or quite $3000. After reading the Drummond Congl'st (last week's), my pen can hardly lie still till it has a chance to say a word to you in memory of the time when we pored over Natural Law in the Spiritual World. What a war there was about it then! But I never heard that the man himself was warred about by those who saw & heard him. He wouldn't use cant [sic], & dared to tell old truths in new words, & could see truth in the same light however revealed. Wish we could read together his Lowell lectures. I have the book & must go over it again since reading how he wrote it. Howare you? We are as usual. Love, Mrs. S.D.S."

Violets, snow-drops & daisies are in blossom. We have only a few rumors to enliven our days but suppose the spring in the north may make some excitement for us.
